Member Groups: Saskatoon Philharmonic Orchestra
The Saskatoon Philharmonic Orchestra was begun in 1997 as a Community based orchestra to fulfill the need for an adult symphony orchestra of non professional players who enjoy performing the classics. As a full symphony orchestra, all instruments are represented. Players are admitted without audition, within the limits of a balanced orchestra.
After an initial variety of conductors we are now guided by George Charpentier. The orchestra is a registered non-profit organization managed by a board of directors.
The orchestra performs two main concerts a year, in late fall and spring with concerts held in a suitable venue such as Castle Theatre or one of the local high schools. As well the orchestra participates in a
concert of Christmas music. Recently the orchestra has performed a full concert in Biggar.
The Saskatoon Philharmonic Orchestra has already built up an extensive repertoire ranging from show tunes to the familiar classics, contributing significantly to Saskatoon's musical and cultural community.
