Teacher Training
Grant: Teacher Training/Professional Development Grant Guidelines
Application Deadline - March 31 of each year
The Teacher Training/Professional Development Grant is for
those wishing to upgrade their qualifications in the teaching of
orchestral String Instruments.
1.
All those receiving funding shall hold an individual
membership in SOA. In addition they shall be citizens or permanent
residents of Canada and have been involved in musical activities in
Saskatchewan for a period of not less than two years.
2.
Applicants shall apply for the funding on the required form,
or by submitting in writing all the information the form requires. Once
the grant has been approved and the applicant has confirmed to the SOA
Administrator the registration in the project, SOA shall make 2/3 payment
(not earlier than 60 days prior to the beginning of the project).
3.
Recipients shall, for a period of not less than nine months
following the professional development activity, live and work in
Saskatchewan in a position where the benefits gained from the workshop
shall be shared with other Saskatchewan residents. In a case where this
condition is not met, 1/2 of the money received shall be returned to SOA.
It would also be desirable for the recipient to write an article about
his/her experience for the SOA Newsletter.
4.
Following the professional development activity, to receive
the final 1/3 of the grant, the recipient shall give a brief written
summary report of not less than 1/2 of a lettersized page explaining how
the grant was used, and confirming that the SOA policy has been followed.
5.
Only activities that are designed to improve a person's
ability as a teacher of music, and have the potential of enhancing a
person's development in music, should be eligible for funding. For example,
a workshop or university class would be a supportable activity, while
attendance at a concert would not.
6.
There shall be no retroactive funding. Applications must be
received by the SOA before the start of the activity.
7.
Priority will be given to those who have not received funds
from SOA professional development funds during the past two years.
8.
In determining the merit of an application, priority shall
be given to those wishing to initiate string and orchestral activities in
Saskatchewan communities where none currently exists.
9.
A grant shall not normally exceed 80% of anticipated
expenses for the project.
SOA gratefully
acknowledges the support from our funders who make the grants possible.
